CHFA to launch a study on consumer perception of front-of-pack labelling

Health Canada is introducing new front-of-pack labelling changes that will come into effect in January 2025.

A release from Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) states that “any prepackaged food that is high in saturated fat, sugar, or sodium will be required to include a Health Canada caution symbol on the front of the package. These new requirements were introduced on July 20, 2022, as part of Canada’s Healthy Eating Strategy to support Canadian consumers to make healthy choices, improve the nutritional quality of foods and protect vulnerable populations.”

To better comprehend the implications of this change, particularly for brands in the better-for-you category, CHFA is investing in a consumer research study to understand consumer perceptions of front-of-pack cautions and how brands can leverage design or innovation to mitigate against any negative connotations.

For those industry members who are curious about how consumers will likely react, CHFA invites you to check out the study, which is expected to launch in June 2024 on chfa.ca. A sample report will be available to download, or if you’re a CHFA member, you’ll get access to the full report. For more details, please visit chfa.ca.
